Q

Do I need Norton on top of firewall, pop-up blocker, virus and spyware protection?

My repaired computer now has Windows XP Pro SP2. I recently got SBC-Yahoo DSL service along with a Linksys wireless broadband router. Do I also need to install my Norton SystemWorks suite? XP has a firewall and my DSL has anti-spyware, virus protection & pop-up blocker.

Yes, you should. The XP firewall is like many other features Microsoft provides -- it's enough to do the job -- barely. Look at WordPad vs. Microsoft Word for Windows. It's barely adequate, but will do the job. If you want something better, you'll have to go buy it. It's a common practice in security to take a layered approach. That is to say that you should never rely on any one mechanism to protect you. Please also see Desktop security tools.
