How can I perform an over-write installation for a product in Windows 2000?

How can I perform an "over-write" installation for a product that is already installed in Windows 2000? Is there a registry key that needs to be altered?

It depends on the application. Some require that you remove the previous installation, clean registry entries, others remove themselves cleaning, still others will allow you to install right over existing products and simply replace old parameters or software with new. You are going to have to obtain information from the product manufacturer.
