Why does IE only let me click two or three links before it crashes?
I have Internet Explore 6.0 SP2 installed on my networked computer at work. Every time I go onto the Internet I only get two or three links to work before I either get the "unknown zone" page or nothing happens. I have to constantly copy the URL, close Internet Explorer, go back in, paste and continue forward with links.
You did not specify an antivirus program, but I shall assume you have one. Here are some troubleshooting steps:
- Go to "Tools" --> "Internet Options" and clean house. On the first tab (General) you want to delete "cookies," delete files (include offline content) and clear your history.
- Then on the last tab (Advanced) scroll to the bottom of the listing and halfway up the screen will be a line "Empty temporary Internet files when the browser closes." Place a check mark in that box, click apply and click okay.
- Exit IE. Empty your Recycle Bin.
- Restart your computer and see if there isn't a substantial improvement.
If you are still having problems, check the "Hosts/LMHosts" files and run antispyware as well.
