Use a commercial antivirus product that is compatible with Windows XP. Also scan floppy discs and other external media. You can reinfect the OS if you use an infected disk. Take special care of multi-boot systems. If the virus is not cleaned from each OS, you may reinfect the system. When XP is installed it replaces the boot sector with its own, but copies the existing boot sector to bootsec.dos which is used, for example when the user wishes to boot to MS-DOS or Windows 98, for example instead of XP. The boot virus might be present there and it may be possible to reinfect the XP system.
