IT shops and partners can now test Microsoft Office 2010 through the company's technical preview program.

Microsoft Office 2010 is due out next year. Improvements include "lightweight" Web-based versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote and better collaboration with co-authoring in Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and Microsoft OneNote 2010.

Microsoft Outlook 2010 also has better e-mail management and calendaring capabilities, including the option for users to "ignore" unwanted threads and other features, Microsoft said.
