In a surprising upset, a gateway appliance, Barracuda Spyware Firewall, took home the gold award for best antispyware product of 2005 over the traditional client software-based solutions, Webroot's Spy Sweeper and Sunbelt Software's CounterSpy.

The products were reviewed by a panel of judges composed of independent industry experts, Windows security professionals and SearchWindownsSecurity.com editors. They reviewed antispyware products using the following criteria.:

Value
