In the corporate world we are besieged by weak passwords that are easily cracked. Using Windows 2000 helps by hashing the passwords, but this is very weak encryption and slows a determined cracker for only a few moments.

Make it tough for them and employ a short phrase you can easily remember.

The key is to make the phrase at least 20 characters in length and employ an alpha-numeric combination with spaces and or punctutation. Windows 2000 will tell you when you use characters that it reserves for itself. Try the example provided below, and run "L0phtcrack" on your Windows 2000 hash file. You will find that it withstands a 24 hour Brute Force Attack. This is an acceptable level of protection and will certainly dissuade all but the most resolute "script kiddie."

Here's an example: "Born In Iowa, Sept 19, 1958"
