Running legacy applications in Windows 2000

If you are having problems running certain applications within Windows 2000 Professional (i.e., Office 97):

  • Open the Local Security policy found in the Administrative tools menu.
  • Right click Security Settings and choose Import Policy.
  • Choose compatws and click Open.
  • Reboot your computer and the application should work.

    In a domain situation, create a group policy and apply the compatws to the appropriate Organizational Unit (OU).
