Comparing VDI and DaaS: Assessing Security

The move to remote and hybrid work has put the spotlight on the security of endpoints and the need to improve the employee experience. For most organizations, the primary options for modernizing endpoint management are desktop as a service (DaaS) and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). In this first of a three-part series, we’ll do a side-by-side comparison of how each of these two options delivers protection and a secure environment.

Both VDI and DaaS offer a secure environment for employees, but the technologies are delivered and security is managed in very different ways. For organizations choosing between VDI and DaaS, the first consideration is whether they will be better served by an on-premises or cloud solution.

The speed at which patching and updating are done is another key consideration for organizations that want to protect their environment from new or evolving threats. This becomes more important as new threat types are unleashed and attacks increase.

Authenticating users is a key component of ensuring that the digital workspace stays secure, since many attacks succeed through compromised user credentials.

As this comparison demonstrates, both VDI and DaaS are secure solutions, but one might be preferred over the other depending on an organization’s requirements. It is important to understand what their individual strengths are and then make a choice based on IT resources, internal technical skills and business demands.
